Welcome to your weekly invitation to meditate on the inspiriting work of a brave sister living and giving from her place of Divine gifting. This week’s featured piece is Brave by Sara Bareilles.

Sara’s lyrics surfaced at a most appropriate time. Over the course of this week, a peculiar thought plagued my idle time. The thought was this. “What takes away your appetite, your hunger and demand for the substance of your dreams?” For everyone, there’s something so powerful that it literally halts or arrests your pursuits.

Perhaps the disquieting thief is an old lie spoken over you as a child, a lie that resurfaces at the most unsuspecting moments, leaving you addled with self-doubt and anxiety. All manner of enthusiastic endeavoring comes to a screeching halt as your mind battles to believe for more of yourself and of life.

Or maybe your appetite for the fuller life ceases at the mention of a love lost. Perhaps there was one so dear you trusted to endure and remain loyal even while the rest of life fell away, but instead the love sullied and, subsequently, the light of life grew dim.

Life delivers excruciating lessons in love, trust, belonging, and identity. These lessons leave impressions, subtle wounds that threaten to arrest progress if disturbed.

These are the unfair demands of Life.

What if, next time, we switch up the roles and place our demands on Life? What if next time…

[We] Don’t run, stop holding your tongue

Maybe there’s a way out of the cage where you live

Maybe one of these days you can let the light in

How about next time, you…

Show me how big your brave is

Say what you wanna say

And let the words fall out

Your life is precious. Absolutely every moment you’re graced with is saturated with significance.

You’re without the capacity to be inconsequential, so don’t live as if you are. If you’ve been told otherwise, stop believing the lie.

Reclaim your hunger for life. Redeem every moment. What you leave on the table of Life, what you leave unclaimed of this moment, will forever be lost.

What demand will you place on Life today? How will you revive your hunger for life and redeem the moments of today?
